MEETINGS
The Village Board meets the second Wednesday of the month at 5:30 pm in the Municipal Building (#40 on the Village map). The meetings are open to the public.
The Historic Review, Zoning, and Water Boards meet as necessary. Meetings are posted at the Post Office, Municipal Building, and the Filling Station restaurant.

WATER AND TRASH
The residential rate for water and garbage service is $21 per month ($15 for water, $6 for garbage). Checks should be made payable to “Village of Bishop Hill.” There is a drop box at the Municipal Building; checks can also be mailed to the Clerk of the Village of Bishop Hill, PO Box 117, Bishop Hill, IL 61419. There are dumpsters for household refuse behind the municipal building for Bishop Hill residents. To reduce Village costs and conserve landfill space, residents are encouraged to burn the trash they can unless a burn ban is in effect. Recycling bins for paper, metal, and plastic are also located behind the municipal building. There is a community dump for yard waste on the north side of the ball park on Park Street alongside the ravine. Signs posted at each site describe acceptable deposits. Business water rates vary. Some businesses opt for private trash removal.
The Bishop Hill, Illinois U.S. Post Office 61419 is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 to 11:30 am and 12:30 to 4:15 pm. Saturday hours are 9:00 to 11:00 am. The Lobby is open 24 hours a day. Mail is picked up at 7:30 am and 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday and at 7:30 and 11:00 am on Saturdays.
911 SERVICE
For immediate service in any emergency, dial 911; the dispatcher will connect you to the emergency service requested. All properties in Bishop Hill have street addresses to aid in fire and ambulance rescue.
CEMETERY
The Treasurer of Bishop Hill maintains the records for the Bishop Hill Cemetery. Contact the Treasurer to make funeral arrangements or to purchase a plot in the cemetery.
PUBLIC LIBRARY
Bishop Hill residents may use the Galva Public Library, located at 120 N.W. 3rd Ave in Galva. Call for hours: 932-2180
Library cards are free and can be used to obtain material through the River Bend Library System which serves 67 libraries (144 facilities) in western Illinois and eastern Iowa.
VOTING
The designated polling place for residents of Bishop Hill is the Fire Station (next to the Filling Station). New Voters may register at the Henry County Courthouse in Cambridge, IL.
INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDERS
DSL and dial-up internet connections are available through the local phone company, Mid-Century Telephone, 309-647-6113 or 877-643-2368. Additional providers are available in Galva and in Geneseo through the Geneseo Telephone Company.

Public restrooms are located at the State Historic Sites: the Colony Church, the Colony Hotel and the State Museum on the south edge of town. They are open when the state sites are open.
Many shops have seasonal hours and are open April through December. There are three restaurants and a bakery in town. The Colony Store, Filling Station, and the Red Oak Restaurant are open all year. Most shops will open by appointment. During the winter months, it is advised to call ahead; Check the Dining and Shopping pages for contact information to confirm hours of operation for each business.
